WEEK 3

SOUND BREAKDOWN

08/03/2021

The sound breakdown part, though a bit tedious was quite easy, and I found that the notes section of TVPaint makes it very easy to keep track of everything on the timeline. I have been growing more used to the software despite a few mishaps here and there, though I could see how TVPaint is an incredibly useful program for animation and I anticipate that I will continue to use it for my personal projects as well.

CUSTOM LIP BRUSHES

There have been instances where I have tried to make characters lip synch in an animation. I felt like I had the phonetics right, though something was off and it took a while to animate a phrase.

Actually learning how to do it now is a great treat, as this method of creating custom brushes for different phonetics cuts down on time by a mile and make it seem much more accurate than animating the inbetweens. I started off worried about the lip synching to now find that the lip synching is the easy part compared to the animating I had to do.

Me and my partner were quite ambitious in our ideas and detailing, wanting to add special quirks and elements in order to add comedic effect and really emphasize the tone of the animation. Though we were warned that this would entail a lot of work, we were both quite optimistic that with our teamwork and diligence, we could get it done in time.

To distribute the work, we decided to take a character each for the sake of continuity in the style. Though I felt like I had shot myself in the foot by choosing the astronaut character that had a detailed spacesuit as well as hands and limbs that needed to seem proportionally correct as opposed to a shapeshifting alien character. Nevertheless, I believed that my partner would do well in animating the smooth movements of the alien, and I will do my best give the references of the spacesuit he made for me.
